A week full of jungle bliss, grounding to the vast vegetation of Costa Rica, hanging from our aerial silks and practicing mat yoga while overlooking the ocean and the trees, eating local organic foods, and staying at a beautifully curated and immersive jungle experience at the heart of Uvitta, Costa Rica has all the components of a healing experience.

To arrive at Selva Armonia retreat centre, we first took a flight from Toronto to San Jose, Costa Rica. We stayed for one night at a local hotel. The next morning the shuttle picked us up at 8 am to drive to Uvita, in the south of Costa Rica. The drive was very relaxing while looking out the window at all of the beautiful flora this country offers. 

We arrived in Uvita, Costa Rica, where we drove up a mountain and were warmly greeted at Selva Armonia. The staff helped us to check in and transport our bags to our gorgeous room (Bungalow Suite). Then we got a couple of the smoothies from the smoothie bar and hung out by the salt water pool and on their bali-style hammocks and took in the views. 

We started off our retreat with an opening meditation on Sankalpa to bring into our vision our seed of intention and then begin to manifest what we want to bring into our lives. 

The yoga shala is a very special place. This two-story wooden structure with open walls and a direct view of the ocean and vast greenery is breathtaking and provides a calm and grounding experience during your practice while looking over the signature view of the whales tail in Costa Rica. 

The aerial silks are hung from the first story on the yoga shala on the lower level deck, where you can attend an aerial yoga class and “hang out” outdoors in the abundant nature of the jungle shore.

The schedule included daily yoga, pilates and aerial yoga classes, from dynamic flow to restorative to offer a well rounded wellness experience. The warm air helps to achieve a deeper stretch and the elements around you help you to stay centered during your self-care practice. 

Also there is an option to book classes 1:1 with the teachers and massage therapists. Our day was then followed by daily excursions and personal time and socializing by the pool at night time. 

From the music, to the lights, the food, the views, the pool and the hot tub, the rooms, the activities planned for each day, and all of the other things, everything is curated to change throughout the day, wrapping you up in this immersive experience where all of your senses are ignited and you are able to move through the day peacefully.

The food at Selva Armonia was made with a lot of love. Harvesting fresh produce straight from their permaculture gardens on the property, it is then prepared into delicious and balanced vegan meals, which are enjoyed at the big ocean-view table. 3 meals per day are served, and the smoothie bar is open during the day to try any of their smoothies, elixirs, wellness shots, coffee, tea, or a nice margarita.
